One lone rabbit hopped its way from Egebjerg to Skovlunde. It now sits serenely in Skovlunde Bypark, a curious ambassador for Kaninfabrikken i Skovlunde. The Kaninfabrikken i Skovlunde is not your typical sculpture. It’s a whimsical creation of the late American artist, Dennis Oppenheim. Originally part of a larger installation in Egebjerg, this single fiberglass rabbit made its way to Skovlunde in 1996. It stands as a quirky testament to Oppenheim’s larger work, the “Kaninfabrikken” (Rabbit Factory) unveiled during the Bo i Byen international housing fair. The main installation in Egebjerg depicts a small, unmanned factory churning out these oversized bunnies. Visitors can see the rabbit parts being molded, hung to dry, then assembled and finally, placed around Teglværkssøen (Brickworks Lake). Oppenheim’s work often plays with the boundaries between nature and industry. Kaninfabrikken i Skovlunde, in its playful way, invites us to question our relationship with the natural world. Are we now in an age where nature is something we manufacture? These gleaming white rabbits serve as a somewhat ironic memorial to a time when we were surrounded by real, living nature. This lone rabbit in Skovlunde Bypark acts as a humorous reminder of how art can proliferate and pop up in unexpected places. It brings a touch of the surreal to the everyday, prompting smiles and perhaps, a moment of reflection. This rabbit isn’t just a sculpture; it’s a piece of a larger story, a playful commentary on our manufactured world. So, next time you’re strolling through Skovlunde Bypark, take a moment to appreciate this curious traveler from Egebjerg, a silent ambassador of the Kaninfabrikken i Skovlunde.
