“Ever been to a former dumpsite turned eco-paradise?” That’s the story of Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan. It sits in Keranggan Setu South Tangerang Banten. This place proves that even the most unlikely spots can bloom into something beautiful.

The idea to transform Keranggan began in 2015. Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan officially opened in 2018. This village spans about 20 hectares. Around 280 families call it home.

The ecotourism village closed due to COVID-19 in 2019. It reopened in early 2022. Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan welcomes visitors from 8 AM to 5 PM. The entrance fee is Rp10000 per person.

Most residents run home industries. These small businesses helped build the tourist village. The aim was to boost the economy. They also wanted to develop human and natural resources.

These home industries turn local produce into snacks. They use ingredients like cassava and bananas. You can find kembang goyang and cassava chips here. There are also banana chips and opak. Don’t forget the jajalon.

Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan also innovates with waste. Plastic trash becomes handicrafts. This shows the village’s commitment to the environment. They also craft items from organic materials. Bamboo and banana fronds are used.

They use maggot cultivation to break down organic waste. Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan offers craft-making workshops. These cost from Rp15000 per person. Traditional dance lessons are also available.

Visitors can enjoy activities like archery and river tubing. These activities have separate fees. Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan uses eco-friendly technology. Villagers and students from the Institut Teknologi Indonesia help. They use solar power for the water supply. This is done through solar pumping.

Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan also received solar cell assistance. Universitas Pamulang and BRIN supported this. The solar power lights the village streets.

Maulana manages promotions for Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan. He says collaboration helped develop the tourist area. Alwani helped create the concept. His main goal is to positively impact the environment. He also wants to boost the economy. Social and educational aspects are important too.

Alwani says the village tries to preserve traditions. They want to create jobs for the community. Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan was listed in the 75 Best Tourist Villages. This was in the 2023 Indonesian Tourism Village Award. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy organized it.

In 2015 it started as a cooperative. In 2018 it became a tourist village. Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan is near the Cisadane River. The natural setting is still beautiful. Many residents run home industries making chips.

Kampung Ekowisata Keranggan is the only community-based tourist spot. It is in South Tangerang. The village is managed by Pokdarwis. It includes the Cisadane River banks. There are UMKM home industries that make chips and roasted nuts. These serve as Keranggan’s souvenirs. Homestays are available in the community. River tours and jungle treks are available.
