Could an enormous giant have scattered these stones? Welcome to Kalászi Ingó-kő kilátás. This area is special because of its unique rock formations. These rocks seem to balance in impossible ways.
The Pákózd Ingókövek Nature Reserve covers 44 hectares. It is managed by the Duna–Ipoly National Park Directorate. This protected area lies in the Velencei Mountains. It is between Pákózd and Sukoró. The area has been protected since 1951.
The Kalászi Ingó-kő kilátás sits at 200–250 meters above sea level. Unique geological features mark this hilly landscape. These are the scattered groups of ingókövek. Ingókövek means “moving stones”. These rock formations are unique in Hungary.
The Velencei Mountains have granite rocks. These rocks resisted erosion. Wind and water carried away debris from cracks between them. Over time, this created unique rock formations. These formations look like piles of rocks. Some balance so delicately. It seems like humans stacked them. Locals called the rounded rocks gyapjúzsákok. This means “wool sacks”.
Key formations near Kalászi Ingó-kő kilátás include Gomba-kő. It also includes Kis-Cipó on the eastern side of Sár-hegy. North of that is Pogány-kő. Scattered around Pogány-kő’s peak are other formations. These are Oroszlán-szikla, Kocka-kő, and Pandúr-kő.
The Kalászi Ingó-kő kilátás area is accessible by tourist routes. These routes are suitable for cyclists. The Granite Geological Nature Trail connects the ingókövek. This trail was established in 1994.
You can see Cyrillic graffiti on the ingókövek at Pogány-kő’s peak. This graffiti recalls a time before 1991. Back then the area was a training ground. It was used by the Soviet army stationed in Hungary.
One of the most striking formations is Kocka. Kocka means “Cube”. It balances on one edge. It looks like you could easily push it off. Kocka is an excellent photo opportunity.
Another notable formation is Pandúr-kő. Its rounded rocks create an amazing sight. You can climb to the top. Be careful because there aren’t many handholds.
From Pogány-kő you can see a fabulous panorama. You can view Velencei Lake. You can also see the entire Velencei mountain range. To the east you will see Meleg-hegy. It is the highest point in the mountains. It is topped with a transmitter tower.
