Behold the Justitia sculpture. This isn’t just any statue. This figure represents justice itself. It stands proudly in the Bremen Landgericht building a testament to the city’s legal history.

The Justitia you see before you is more than just a pretty face. She’s a symbol of impartial judgment. Notice her blindfold. It symbolizes her unbiased nature. She weighs evidence carefully. That’s represented by the scales in her left hand. The sword in her right hand shows justice can be harsh.

This particular Justitia has a fascinating story. During the Nazi era she was deemed unsuitable. The authorities considered her blindfold inappropriate for their vision of justice. They ordered her removed and destroyed. Fortunately the police president hid her. After the war she was eventually given to a law firm. Finally in 1991 she returned to her rightful place.

Unlike other Justitia statues in Bremen this one wears a blindfold. Many others don’t. A royal decree in 1907 stated that future Justitia statues should be shown without one. However this decree came too late for our Bremen Justitia. She is a unique reminder of a dark chapter.

Her story serves as a reminder. Justice isn’t always blind. But in an ideal world it should strive to be. She stands as a silent guardian. She watches over the pursuit of justice in Bremen.

So look closely at this remarkable figure. Contemplate her story. She’s more than a statue. She represents the enduring quest for justice. She is a symbol of hope and resilience. She survived a troubled time. This Justitia continues to inspire.
