Jin Fu Gong, also known as Jurong Temple, isn’t just a temple. It’s a story of resilience, a journey of faith. It started not here in Jurong West, but miles away in the now-gone Zheng Hua Village of Bukit Panjang. Imagine a small village in the 1960s, where residents discovered a statue of Tua Pek Kong. They built a humble shrine around it, calling it Kim Hock Keng, meaning Golden Luck Temple, later known as Jin Fu Gong. This original temple was famous for its well. People believed its waters held healing properties, curing coughs and ailments. But progress, like a relentless tide, eventually swept over Zheng Hua Village. In the 1990s, development forced the relocation of the temple. Jin Fu Gong found its new home here in Jurong West. The spirit of Tua Pek Kong, however, remained. He continues to watch over his devotees, now joined by other deities like Guan Yin, Guan Di, Mazu, the Tiger God, and Datuk Kong. The temple grounds today reflect this rich blend of faith. Notice the sturdy “dragon” pillars supporting the temple structure. Admire the intricate wall reliefs depicting scenes from the Three Kingdoms. Look around and you’ll find a signboard appealing for donations to build a new, eco-friendly burner. Finally, don’t miss the tranquil carp pond gracing the temple’s compound. Jin Fu Gong is more than just bricks and mortar. It is a living testament to the enduring power of faith and community, carried from a small village to a bustling town.
