The Jüdischer Friedhof Mondorf was established in 1883. Before that, the Jewish community in Mondorf buried their dead elsewhere. This final resting place is located on Lerchenstraße. It is near the Bergheim industrial area.

Around 1880, the community numbered about 25 people. By 1932, it had dwindled to 20. The Jüdischer Friedhof Mondorf served not only Mondorf. It also served the Jewish residents of Rheidt and the Sieglar district.

The sign reads: “Mondorf – Jewish Cemetery. On the burial ground of the Mondorf Synagogue community, established in 1883, the deceased Jewish inhabitants from Rheidt and Mondorf were buried.”

The Mondorf Synagogue community no longer exists. Most Jews deported in the summer of 1942 did not survive the Holocaust. Few who could flee returned.
