What happened to the Eagles of John Hope College Prep? John Hope College Prep opened in 1971 as a middle school. It became a four-year high school in 1997. Sadly, John Hope College Prep closed its doors in January of 2020. The school was named for John Hope. He was an educator and civil rights activist. John Hope served as the first African American president of both Morehouse College and Atlanta University. The school’s motto was “Excellence Without Excuses”. During its operation, John Hope College Prep was known for its beautiful and spacious facilities, which included outdoor fields, modern assembly areas, and a competitive swimming pool. It’s unfortunate that this institution with such a rich history and commitment to providing quality education is no longer in operation.
