Was it fate? Perhaps it was simply a generous act. But Joaquìn Gorina exists because of a man’s willingness to donate his land. Let’s delve into the story of Joaquìn Gorina.

Joaquìn Gorina is a town in the La Plata Partido. It sits in the Buenos Aires Province of Argentina. The town is located about 10 km northwest of La Plata city center.

The story of Joaquìn Gorina begins in the early 20th century. Percival Bell sold part of the “Estancia Grande”. He had inherited it from Jorge Bell. This sale led to the development of various towns in the region. In 1914, City Bell was divided into lots. On December 12, 1916, Joaquìn Gorina bought another part of the land. This land would later be called Haras “La Lula”. It was named in honor of his wife, Luisa.

The pivotal moment arrived in 1923. The Provincial Railway construction began. It aimed to connect La Plata with Avellaneda. Joaquìn Gorina donated his recently acquired land. He gave it to those in charge of the new railway project. However, he had one condition. The project had to bear his name. On June 2, the Executive Power accepted the donation. It included 14 hectares of land. Years later, the Joaquìn Gorina station began operating. It was a tribute to the land’s former owner. Provincial Law 11526 established June 2, 1923. It marked the founding date of Joaquìn Gorina.

Since then, Joaquìn Gorina has been known for its tranquility. Low houses and key institutions characterize it. These include the Frigorìfico Gorina. COSEGO and Unidad Penitenciaria N° 18 also reside here. The Estaciòn Experimental is a point of pride. Solidarity organizations such as La Casita de Gorina also contribute. Spaces like La Cantera serve the residents.

The Frigorìfico Gorina provides employment in the area. It is a leading meat industry company in Argentina. COSEGO was founded on September 1, 1990. It aims to manage services for the community. La Casita de Gorina supports children in need since 1997. Unidad Penitenciaria N° 18 focuses on inmate training. It offers skills in gardening and baking. The Estaciòn Experimental Gorina specializes in horticultural production.

Joaquìn Gorina’s name is tied to the railway’s construction. In 1923, when the railway was planned, Joaquìn Gorina owned the land. He ceded the land with the condition. The project must carry his name. The Executive Power accepted the donation on June 2. Years later, the Joaquìn Gorina station was established. It honored the former landowner.

So, as you explore Joaquìn Gorina, remember its origins. A man’s generosity shaped this town. His name lives on through the station and the community. Joaquìn Gorina stands as a testament to a lasting legacy.
