Completed in 1999, the Jiak Kim Bridge is one of three pedestrian bridges. These bridges enhance Robertson Quay’s charm. The Urban Redevelopment Authority spearheaded this project. Its goal was to create a pedestrian promenade along the Singapore River.
Notice the Jiak Kim Bridge’s elegant single-arch design. It is painted in white or ash. Nine steel cables suspend the deck. They offer pedestrians a delightful way to cross the river. You can also admire the scenic views.
The Jiak Kim Bridge is named after Tan Jiak Kim. He was a prominent figure in Singapore’s history. Tan Jiak Kim was the grandson of Tan Kim Seng. He was a well-known merchant and philanthropist. Tan Jiak Kim was also the son of Tan Beng Swee. He continued his family’s legacy.
Tan Jiak Kim made significant contributions to Singaporean society. He served as the longest-serving Chinese member. He was in the Legislative Council. He was also elected Municipal Commissioner.
