Established in 1635 by King Louis XIII this botanical garden wasn’t just a pretty place. It was a hub of scientific learning. Initially under the royal physician’s authority it quickly became a center for botanists pharmacists geologists and other scientists.

During Louis XIV’s reign medicinal plants thrived here. An amphitheater hosted medical demonstrations lectures and even dissections. Can you imagine?

The French Revolution changed everything. The Jardin des Plantes was no longer royal property. The new government completely redesigned the park. They added museums and a zoo.
