Imagine Queen Sophie Amalie seeking refuge from courtly life. It brings us to Jægerhuset. Built in 1896 Jægerhuset started as a forest restaurant. It was part of Næsseslottet.

Let’s dive into the history of Næsseslottet. It dates back to Frederik the Third’s reign. Queen Sophie Amalie acquired land near Furesø in 1661. She longed for a peaceful escape. Court life in Copenhagen was exhausting. A country house named Dronninggård was built. The estate remained royal property until 1776. Later private owners took over.

In 1782 Fréderic de Coninck began building a new main building. This was Næsseslottet. De Coninck was a wealthy shipowner. He wanted the building and garden to harmonize. The park was designed in an English-Chinese style. De Coninck imported exotic trees. These trees still contribute to the park’s unique character.

After de Coninck’s death in 1811 Dronninggård was sold. A German merchant bought it. However he did not live at Næsseslottet. The castle and park began to decline.

In 1895 a corporation acquired the area. The dilapidated main building was renovated. Næsseslottet became a hotel. Jægerhuset was constructed as an annex. It complemented the hotel.

Jægerhuset has a rich history linked to royalty. It connects to wealthy merchants. The building offers beautiful views of Furesø. It provides insight into Danish history. Jægerhuset stands as a reminder of Queen Sophie Amalie’s desire for tranquility. It reflects de Coninck’s vision for harmonious design.

Today Jægerhuset is a restaurant. It welcomes guests to enjoy its historic setting. Visitors can experience the beauty of Furesø. They can imagine the lives of those who shaped this place. It provides a glimpse into Denmark’s past. Enjoy a meal here. Consider the stories held within these walls.
