The story of the Islamic Centre Upton Park began humbly. Over 35 years ago the Quwwat-ul-Islam Society sought a place for Jummah prayers. They also wanted a Madrasa for Muslim children. It started in 1975 in a hired hall. This was at Trinity Church Hall in Manor Park. The community grew and their needs increased. In 1984, some brave brothers purchased a property. It was on the corner of Upton Lane and Skelton Road.
A significant step occurred in 1986. The community bought a warehouse. This is where the existing Masjid stands today. It is located at 62-66 Upton Lane, Forest Gate, London. This purchase laid a strong foundation.
The community’s vision expanded. In 1999, they bought bakery land behind the Masjid. It was at 16 Chaucer Road, Forest Gate, London. The goal was to establish a Girls’ school.
With Allah’s help, the Quwwat-ul-Islam Girls’ School opened in August 2003. It started with 50 pupils. Within two years, the number increased to 112. By 2005, they established a secondary school. Both schools follow the national curriculum. They also integrate Islamic Ethos and are registered with Ofsted.
In 2006, the Quwwat-ul-Islam Society began Alimah education for girls. This is a seven-year course. Approximately 110 students attend. Classes are held on weekday evenings.
The Islamic Centre Upton Park continues to grow stronger. Its purpose is to positively impact society. It aims to help individuals succeed in this world and the hereafter. It is a key contributor in East London. It fosters a positive difference for everyone.
