Did you know that ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute wasn’t always a university? It started in 1972 with big dreams. Imagine, a whole new public university in Lisbon! But then came the Carnation Revolution in 1974, and ISCTE remained a single institute instead of a larger university. It wasn’t until much later, in 2009, that ISCTE officially became a university institute. Today, ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute stands as a testament to ambition and adaptation. It boasts four schools: the ISCTE Business School, the School of Social and Human Sciences, the School of Sociology and Public Policy, and the School of Technology and Architecture. With around 11,000 students, ISCTE is a lively hub of learning and research. Ironically, despite its initial setback, ISCTE is now considered a fully-fledged research university, even surpassing some of the original universities it was meant to be part of. It just goes to show, sometimes even unexpected turns can lead to remarkable outcomes.
