In 1974, amidst a growing need for advanced police training, the Instituto Universitario de la Policía Federal (IUPFA) was established. The IUPFA, right here before us, isn’t just a building. It’s a symbol of professional development and a key player in Argentina’s security landscape. Originally named the Higher Academy of Police Studies, the IUPFA transformed into a university-level institution. It aimed to elevate the police profession through scientific and technical training. The IUPFA’s mission is to provide comprehensive training to all members of the Argentine Federal Police. It strives to adapt to the evolving demands of security, social changes, and advancements in science and technology. The Institute offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs. It contributes to knowledge creation through research and development. The IUPFA also engages in outreach activities, connecting with both the university community and the wider society. Its vision is to be a 21st-century university. It aims to be a modern and dynamic institution, capable of generating and transmitting new knowledge through research. The IUPFA has ambitious strategic goals for 2022-2030. It seeks to become a national and regional reference in security education. This includes the disciplines of criminalistics and criminal investigation. The IUPFA also aims to strengthen its role as a reference in police training and development. It wants to improve coordination with various police departments, facilitating information exchange. The Institute plans to offer academic programs tailored to the functional roles and territorial deployment of the Argentine Federal Police. This includes short professional development programs. It also seeks to enhance academic and administrative management. It wants to foster international cooperation and academic mobility. The IUPFA is committed to generating scientific and technological knowledge relevant to the strategic and operational needs of the police force. It also intends to continue its outreach and transfer policy, strengthening the bond between the IUPFA and the local community. The IUPFA’s academic offerings are geared towards Criminal Investigation and Criminalistics. This is in line with the strategic plan of the Argentine Federal Police and the policies of the Argentine Ministry of Security. The two-year Virtual Complementary Degrees are designed primarily for graduates of AFP Academies. However, they are also open to provincial police officers and federal forces personnel across the country.
