Established in 1972, the Instituto Tecnológico de Tlalnepantla (ITTLA) began with a single engineering program, Electromechanical Engineering. The ITTLA aimed to be a catalyst for community growth. It sought to nurture highly skilled professionals equipped to tackle the challenges of a modernizing Mexico. Over time, the Instituto Tecnológico de Tlalnepantla expanded its offerings. Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Business Management, Administration, and Information and Communications Technology Engineering programs were added to the curriculum. In the 1990s, educational reforms led by Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León prompted restructuring. The Bachelor’s program in Industrial Relations was replaced with a Bachelor’s in Administration. A language center and computer lab were also inaugurated. These additions reflected the evolving needs of the region and advancements in technology. By 2010, a new “Eastern Zone” campus was completed, serving over 1,000 students. This expansion helped the Instituto Tecnológico de Tlalnepantla maintain its hard-earned prestige. For over four decades, ITTLA has educated more than 10,000 young people in various technical fields. The ITTLA’s emblem, designed in 1972, depicts the institute’s initials intertwined with the rising sun. The sun’s rays, breaking through the hills east of the Tlalnepantla valley, symbolize a new era. This era is illuminated by science, culture, and technology, working together to enhance the nation’s productivity. The motto “POR LA REALIZACIÓN TECNOLÓGICA DE MI PUEBLO” (For the technological realization of my people) reinforces this commitment. In the late 1990s, a contest was held to choose the ITTLA’s mascot. The winner? The lizard. Anthropological studies revealed that the institute’s foundation rests on what was once a prehistoric swamp. Fossil remains of prehistoric lizards were discovered during excavations, linking the mascot to the site’s history. Today, ITTLA stands as a testament to its dedication to education. It boasts a diverse range of engineering programs. It also offers Master’s degrees and online learning options for continued academic growth. The Instituto Tecnológico de Tlalnepantla continues to shape future generations of professionals, driving technological advancement and community development.
