Did you know the Instituto de Investigaciones Sobre la Universidad y la Educacion IISUE wasn’t always an institute? Before 1976 it was the Centro de Estudios sobre la Universidad CESU a center for studying the university’s history and present. The IISUE stands before us a testament to decades of research. It’s a place where scholars delve into the intricacies of education.

Founded on November 15 1976 during the rectory of Guillermo Soberon Acevedo the CESU quickly became a beacon for educational research in Mexico. It wasn’t just about the university’s past. The CESU embraced the pedagogical dimension. It became a crucial entity for understanding education’s evolution. It expanded its focus incorporating the pedagogical aspect a pivotal step in its journey.

In 2006 a significant shift occurred. Under Rector Juan Ramon De la Fuente Ramirez the CESU transformed into the Instituto de Investigaciones Sobre la Universidad y la Educacion IISUE. This wasn’t simply a name change. It was a formal elevation reflecting its growing stature and influence. The Consejo Universitario approved the change solidifying its position as a leading research institute.

The IISUE didn’t appear out of thin air. It built upon the work of other UNAM entities. The Centro de Investigaciones y Servicios Educativos CISE the Centro de Didactica and the Comision de Nuevos Metodos de Ensenanza were precursors. Their collective efforts laid the groundwork for the IISUE’s comprehensive approach.

The IISUE’s reach extends beyond academia. In 2015 under Rector Jose Narro Robles it took on the responsibility of managing the Museo UNAM Hoy. This museum houses a remarkable collection showcasing the UNAM’s rich history and present-day activities. The museum displays both permanent and temporary exhibits highlighting the university’s dynamic nature.

Today the IISUE boasts a remarkable academic staff. It includes 43 tenured researchers 23 associate researchers and even an emeritus researcher. Supporting them are 41 academic technicians. Their collective expertise ensures that research remains at the forefront. Their combined efforts foster an environment conducive to groundbreaking discoveries.

The IISUE continues to thrive. It publishes numerous books and journal articles. It trains numerous postgraduate students. It contributes significantly to the ongoing discourse on education and universities. The IISUE remains a vital part of the UNAM enriching the intellectual landscape of Mexico and beyond. The legacy of the IISUE is a testament to continuous growth and unwavering commitment. It shapes the future of education in Mexico.
