The renowned filmmaker Nelson Pereira dos Santos played a pivotal role. He helped create the Communication Social course. He also founded the Cine Arte UFF.
The Instituto de Artes e Comunicaçao Social has expanded significantly since its humble beginnings. It now boasts a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The Instituto de Artes e Comunicaçao Social survived a setback in 2025. Heavy rains damaged the newly renovated building. It required a 28.9 million real investment. The city of Niterói and the UFF collaborated on the rebuild. This collaboration highlights the Instituto’s significance to the community. It shows the value placed on education and the arts.
