“Dreaming of a brighter future while balancing work and study?” That’s the promise Institut Teknologi Budi Utomo, ITBU, offers. Here at ITBU, we see a place born from the vision of educators at STM Negeri I Budi Utomo Jakarta.

Back in the 1970s, Bapak Abdul Gani Masulili, the headmaster, and his team dreamed of an academy of technology. Their idea resonated with prominent figures like Prof. DR. Ir. R. Roosseno, and Ir. Prayogo, the Deputy Governor of Jakarta. Ir. Mucharam Surya, MBA, from the Department of Education and Culture, also supported this idea.

Their collective vision materialized into the Akademi Teknik Budi Utomo, ATBU. This was under the guidance of the Budi Utomo Foundation. The Minister of Education and Culture officially recognized ATBU on January 29, 1980. This recognition came through Decree Number 012/1980. Initially, ATBU offered three departments. These were Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering.

As the computer era dawned in 1985, ATBU expanded. It introduced Computer Engineering and Architecture departments. A significant transformation occurred in 1988. ATBU became Institut Teknologi Budi Utomo. This happened through decrees numbered 0286/0/1988 and 0287/1988 issued on June 18, 1988.

ITBU then comprised two main faculties. The Faculty of Industrial Technology, FTI, included Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Informatics Engineering. The Faculty of Civil Technology and Planning, FTSP, focused on Civil Engineering.

ITBU achieved further recognition in 1992. The Director-General of Higher Education granted it ” признаете” status. This happened through Decree Number 299/DIKTI/Kep/1992, issued on June 22, 1992. Then in 1997, ITBU reached another milestone. The Minister of Education and Culture granted “Equivalence” status to three undergraduate programs. These were Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. This was formalized in Decree Number 93/DIKTI/Kep/1997, dated May 6, 1997.

The same year, the advanced diploma programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering also achieved “Equivalence”. This was granted through Decree Number 413/DIKTI/Kep/1997, issued on October 9, 1997. ITBU secured accreditation in 1998, 2002, and 2008.

Today, Institut Teknologi Budi Utomo continues its commitment to providing quality education. ITBU offers flexible class schedules. This is especially helpful for working individuals. ITBU’s “Kelas Karyawan” or Employee Class program enables students to pursue higher education without sacrificing their jobs.

Institut Teknologi Budi Utomo stands as a testament to the power of vision. It shows the dedication of educators. It is a place where dreams take flight. ITBU is a place where a brighter, more successful future becomes attainable.
