Tucked away in the bustling heart of Nashville, Tennessee, stands Inglewood Baptist Church. It’s a place where hymns have resonated for nearly a century. Inglewood Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the enduring power of faith. Inglewood Baptist Church first opened its doors in 1923. A small group of just thirty believers gathered in a humble home on Shelton Avenue. They laid the foundation for what would become a vibrant community of faith. Imagine those early days, filled with the fervent prayers and shared dreams of a nascent congregation. In the late 1920s, the congregation moved to its current location on Gallatin Road. They began meeting in a basement auditorium, affectionately nicknamed the “Basement Church.” This space, literally beneath the current sanctuary, nurtured the growing congregation. Brick by brick, soul by soul, Inglewood Baptist Church began to rise. The current auditorium, completed in 1948, stands as a symbol of their perseverance. The church continued to expand. Educational facilities were added in 1952 and 1955, reflecting the church’s commitment to nurturing minds as well as spirits. Inglewood Baptist Church has been shepherded by a series of dedicated pastors. From Rev. William McMurray in 1926 to Dr. Kevin Shrum, who assumed leadership in 1995, each pastor has left their mark on the church’s history. Dr. Shrum has ushered in a renewed focus on outreach and growth, both within the church and the wider community. In 1997, the Allegro School of Music was established. This addition broadened the church’s reach and enriched the community with the gift of music. A significant renovation project, totaling $1.4 million, began in 1998. The debt was paid in full by April 2009, demonstrating the congregation’s commitment to their spiritual home. More recently, the Youth Building underwent renovations. This revitalization, completed in the summer of 2016, underscores Inglewood Baptist Church’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of believers. In March 2024, the church celebrated its centennial anniversary. This milestone marked a century of faith, service, and community at Inglewood Baptist Church. It was a testament to the enduring spirit of the church and its people.
