Established in 1970, Inges Kattehjem stands as a beacon of hope for Denmark’s feline friends. Inges Kattehjem isn’t just a shelter. It’s Denmark’s largest cat organization, finding homes for over 3,000 cats annually through shelters across the country. The story begins with Inge Sørensen. She noticed a growing number of stray cats and a lack of resources for their care. Driven by compassion, she transformed her home, a former nursery and gardening center, into the first Inges Kattehjem in Glostrup. Imagine the initial challenges. Inge juggled a part-time job with the immense task of renovating the entire property. Yet, her dedication prevailed. The main branch in Glostrup remains a testament to her vision. Over time, Inges Kattehjem expanded to include branches in Næstved, founded in 1993, and Odense, established in 1992. These branches, along with Glostrup, are staffed by dedicated teams of volunteers and managers. Both the Glostrup and Odense locations even have their own clinics. These clinics prioritize the health of the cats before adoption, ensuring they receive necessary care. Inges Kattehjem also manages Dansk Katteregister. This database holds crucial information on earmarked and microchipped cats, further contributing to their welfare. Inges Kattehjem has witnessed remarkable feats. They’ve found homes for an astounding 3,500 cats and kittens yearly. Their clinic earmarks approximately 1,700 cats annually. They often have over 100 daily visitors. They’ve even had a record-breaking day of adoptions, finding homes for 31 cats and kittens. Inges Kattehjem’s legacy continues to grow. It provides a safe haven and a second chance for thousands of cats, thanks to Inge Sørensen’s unwavering commitment.
