InformatiKOM 1 officially opened its doors in November 2023. The Klaus Tschira Foundation generously funded its construction. This modern marvel was designed by Bernhardt + Partner Architekten. InformatiKOM 1 isn’t just a building. It’s a bridge between the university and the public, a testament to the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing. InformatiKOM 1 houses institutes of informatics, science communication, and applied cultural studies. Think of it as a vibrant hub where scientists, students, and the community connect. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece. A transparent hover cushion roof crowns the structure, allowing natural light to flood the open atrium. This atrium forms the heart of InformatiKOM 1, extending from the ground floor up to the fifth floor. Three wide staircases wind through this central space. They serve not only as pathways between floors but also as informal seating areas. The lowest staircase even transforms into a stage for public presentations. Imagine attending a lecture there, surrounded by the buzz of innovation. InformatiKOM 1 is more than just aesthetics. It’s designed for accessibility and interaction. The Robot Design Atelier, located within its walls, showcases the latest in AI technology, aligning it with societal needs. The building also houses the Science-Media-Communication program and the Center for Cultural and General Studies.
