Established on June 26 1955 diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Hungary blossomed. This very building the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest stands as a testament to that enduring bond. Here on Varosligeti fasor 26 history unfolds.

The Indonesian Embassy in Budapest is more than just an address. It’s a vibrant hub of cultural exchange and diplomatic activity. Its story is rich and layered. It began humbly. Initially an Indonesian ambassador to Czechoslovakia held a concurrent non-resident role in Hungary.

Things changed in 1960. The Indonesian embassy officially opened its doors in Budapest. R Iman Surjakusuma served as Chargé d’affaires. He steered the mission until the arrival of the first resident ambassador Sarino Mangunpranoto in 1962. This marked a significant step in strengthening the ties between the two nations.

The embassy’s role extended beyond Budapest. For a time it served as the Indonesian diplomatic representation for Bosnia and Herzegovina Croatia and North Macedonia. This expanded reach showcased Indonesia’s commitment to regional diplomacy. However in 2010 the Indonesian government opened embassies in Sarajevo and Zagreb. The Budapest embassy’s accreditation to those countries ended. Similarly in 2015 North Macedonia’s accreditation transferred to the Indonesian embassy in Sofia Bulgaria.

Today the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest continues its vital work. It promotes friendship and collaboration. It helps Indonesian citizens in Hungary. It supports cultural and economic exchanges. The current ambassador Abdurachman Hudiono Dimas Wahab appointed in 2019 continues this legacy. He carries the torch of diplomacy. He strengthens the bonds between Indonesia and Hungary.

Stepping before the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest we stand on the edge of history. We’re witnesses to a story of diplomatic evolution. This building is more than brick and mortar. It’s a symbol of cooperation. A symbol of shared values. It is a beacon of Indonesian presence in Hungary.
