Hidden in plain sight, Impasse Lacombe is a private lane branching off Rue Villebois Mareuil in Lyon. Impasse Lacombe isn’t your typical bustling city street. It’s more of a secluded courtyard. The identity of the Lacombe who gave the impasse its name has faded into obscurity. Ironically, while the namesake of Impasse Lacombe remains unknown, another Lacombe achieved fame. Bernard Lacombe, born in 1952, is celebrated for his football career with Olympique Lyonnais. He scored over a hundred goals at Gerland stadium. The area around Impasse Lacombe developed in the early 20th century. Originally, the lane was named Impasse Simonnet. It was named after the owner of the most beautiful house in the impasse.
