“God with us.” That’s what Immanuel means. Immanuel Christian Church lives by this every day. This church started with a vision. It aimed to transform Bukit Batok and beyond.
In mid-June 2006 five Christian families gathered. They prayed for God’s direction. They felt a burden to start a church in Bukit Batok. They dialogued and prayed. Everyone felt sure God wanted them to begin this church.
God spoke to Pastor Nehemiah. They named the church Immanuel Community Church. “Without God we cannot without us God will not” became their motto. Immanuel Community Church wanted to bless Bukit Batok and beyond.
In July 2006 ten adults and seven children met. They gathered at the pastor’s HDB home for weekly praise and worship. They also had Bible studies. The children used two bedrooms for their Bible classes. They called this group SONIC KIDZ. This meant Spirit-filled children believing that Nothing is impossible In Christ. The church continued seeking God’s will.
In September 2006 the government approved their church application. They rented a tuition center for Saturday services. Soon they needed their own place. Knowing this work belonged to God they trusted Him. In February 2007 they started services at Block 284 Bukit Batok East Ave 3. They took small steps. God revealed Himself in personal ways.
The church began an outreach program called ISAAC. It stood for Immanuel Sports And Activities Club. The pastor his wife and a Christian brother started playing soccer. At first there were only four of their children. In two years it grew to about 20 boys from the neighborhood. The church also opened its doors for children to study. Adults and youths volunteered to help the students.
Though lacking resources the church continued serving. They organized children’s camps and youth soccer camps. They helped the poor and needy. They started a Speak English Club. They trained student leaders and helped weaker students. They partnered with RCs and Community Clubs. Together they ran Christmas and Family events for residents.
