“Gazetecilik Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc”. That was the original name of what we now know as the \u0130leti\u015fim Fak\u00fcltesi. Today we will explore this faculty. In 1947 the \u0130stanbul Journalists Association sought to establish a school for journalism. They petitioned \u0130stanbul University’s Senate. The goal was clear. Between 1975 and 1980, it operated under the Faculty of Economics. During this time it was known as the Institute of Journalism and Public Relations. In 1980, it gained higher education status. It was renamed the School of Journalism and Public Relations still under the Faculty of Economics.
A further transformation occurred in 1982. It was renamed the Press and Publication School. This time it reported directly to the Rectorate of \u0130stanbul University. Finally in 1992, it achieved its current status. It became the \u0130stanbul University \u0130leti\u015fim Fak\u00fcltesi.
The first dean of the Faculty was Prof. Dr. Tayfun Akg\u00fcner. He had previously served as the Director of the High School. Today the \u0130leti\u015fim Fak\u00fcltesi continues to offer education. It has programs in journalism, public relations and advertising. Also it provides courses in radio, television and cinema. Students can pursue bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
