Founded in 1887 the III Kerülete TVE stands before us. A testament to Budapest’s rich sporting heritage. It’s one of Hungary’s oldest sports clubs. Can you imagine the bustling streets of Óbuda back then? The club initially focused on gymnastics and fencing. Football arrived later. Its popularity surged in Budapest. In 1897 members from III Kerülete TVE and Óbudai Torna Egylet joined forces. They formed the Budai Football Club. This partnership ended with III Kerülete TVE establishing its own football team in 1899. The club’s early years were marked by its rise to prominence. It debuted in Hungary’s first division in 1911. Between 1913 and 1937 it remained a consistent presence in the top league. The 1920s and 30s were particularly successful. A highlight was winning the Hungarian Cup in 1931. They defeated Ferencvárosi TC a major victory. The club’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. After a period of success the club faced difficulties. It merged with Csepel SC in 2000. The first team relocated to Csepel Island. Youth teams stayed in Óbuda. This arrangement was short lived. The football section of Csepel dissolved in 2002. In 2003 the senior team reformed. The club returned to the III district playing in the fourth division. They won undefeated. Since then the team has competed in the Hungarian third division and even higher divisions at times. Its journey continues embodying the spirit of athleticism and community spirit. The III Kerülete TVE’s story is one of resilience. It’s a story of triumphs and setbacks. It’s a symbol of the enduring passion for sport in Budapest. This is a club that has shaped generations. It continues to inspire future generations of athletes.
