Whispers of divine inspiration led to the creation of the Igreja Deus e Amor. It all began with David Martins de Miranda. In 1962, he claimed a divine revelation instructed him to establish a new church. The name, Igreja Deus e Amor, meaning “God is Love,” was also divinely revealed. The Igreja Deus e Amor started humbly with only three members: David, his mother Anália, and his sister Araci. They held their first services in a rented hall in Vila Maria, São Paulo. The Igreja Deus e Amor grew rapidly. It gained a following among those seeking spiritual healing and deliverance. David Miranda’s preaching, combined with claims of divine manifestations, drew large crowds. Radio broadcasts played a pivotal role in the church’s expansion. The “A Voz da Libertação” program reached a vast audience, spreading the church’s message throughout Brazil and internationally. The Igreja Deus e Amor’s reach extends beyond Brazil’s borders, with congregations in 88 countries. David Miranda led the Igreja Deus e Amor until his passing in 2015. His wife, Ereni de Oliveira Miranda, then assumed leadership. Today, the Igreja Deus e Amor boasts over 22,000 churches worldwide and a membership exceeding one million. Throughout its history, the Igreja Deus e Amor has navigated its share of controversies. In 2024, a dress code issued by the church sparked accusations of racism and prompted public apologies and policy reversals. However, the Igreja Deus e Amor continues to thrive. It remains a testament to David Miranda’s vision and the enduring power of faith.
