“Such a modern church!” You might be surprised to learn that the Igreja de Santa Beatriz, despite its contemporary appearance, holds a deep connection to history. This church, inaugurated in 2005, serves as the heart of its parish, established in 1992. But the story goes deeper. The Igreja de Santa Beatriz isn’t just a building. It stands as a tribute to Saint Beatrice of Silva, the founder of the Franciscan Conceptionist Sisters. You’ll notice the church’s facade is comprised of three distinct sections. The central building, crafted from Moleanos stone, embodies the classic church front. Flanking it on both sides are structures housing spaces for the parish community. Now, step inside and look up. The translucent dome bathes the interior in a soft, ethereal light. There, you’ll see the image of Saint Beatrice herself. Notice the intricately carved altarpiece adorning the side aisle, a testament to the dedication within these walls.
