It’s a testament to a century of compassion and community. The story begins in 1917, with Lucília de Souza Ribeiro and a group of volunteers. They started a small sewing workshop to help those in need. This simple act of kindness became the seed for something much larger. In 1921, the initiative officially became known as the Pequena Cruzada da Irmã Therezinha. The Igreja da Pequena Cruzada received a generous gift in 1930. Rio’s mayor, Prado Júnior, donated land by the lagoon. This land is where the current headquarters still stands today. Decades later, in 1969, Marina França Pinto took the helm. Her vision was to build a school for the 160 children the Pequena Cruzada sheltered annually. With support from organizations like the Lions and Rotary Clubs, the dream became a reality. The Centro Educacional Pequena Cruzada opened its doors in 2002. This marked a significant expansion, extending their reach to include local children in elementary school. The Igreja da Pequena Cruzada remains committed to its mission of education and social inclusion.
