“Activities of religious organizations.” That’s what the Igreja da Conquista is all about. This church is more than just a building. It is a hub of faith and community.
The Igreja da Conquista’s story began in 2013. That’s the year the organization was founded. It is also when it registered its CNPJ. Walmir Vidal is associated with the church. You can reach out via walmirvidal@yahoo.com.br.
But what does the Igreja da Conquista actually do? Unfortunately, that is not clear. Its mission, vision, and statutory purposes remain undisclosed. We do know it falls under the umbrella of religion. Its sub-area is specifically religion too.
Padre João Francisco de Siqueira Andrade’s story intertwines with the spirit of dedication found here. He was born in 1837. He dedicated himself to education. He dreamed of a place to educate poor boys. Siqueira served as a volunteer in the Paraguayan War. Tuberculosis forced his return. He then moved to Petrópolis seeking relief.
The priest saw poverty and orphaned children. He especially saw girls in need. He presented his education project to Emperor Dom Pedro II. The emperor authorized his endeavor. Padre Siqueira sought donations for his school.
The Escola Doméstica de Nossa Senhora do Amparo opened in 1871. It was a pilot project for education. This school was for the entire country. Francisca Narcisa helped him. She dedicated herself to the children. They called her “mamãezinha”.
Padre Siqueira died in 1881 due to tuberculosis. He requested the teaching staff form a congregation. It should be called “Congregação de Nossa Senhora do Amparo”. They should follow the Third Order of São Francisco da Penitência.
The “Filhas de Maria” emerged in 1888. They became Franciscan in 1889. The congregation became diocesan in 1906. Pope John Paul II granted pontifical approval in 1979. Schools similar to Amparo de Petrópolis were founded elsewhere. The sisters spread across Brazil. They even reached Africa.
Consider Padre Siqueira’s prayer. May we convert life’s moments into opportunities. Opportunities to serve children and God’s people. May we illuminate the earth with faith and love. Like Padre Siqueira, may we be followers of Jesus Christ. The Igreja da Conquista continues this legacy. It is a place of worship. It is a testament to faith.
