Beyond these doors lies a story of faith family and community here at Igreja Batista em Icaraí. This church is more than just a building. It is a vibrant hub for those seeking connection and spiritual growth.
Igreja Batista em Icaraí stands as a testament to the Baptist community in Niterói. Its address is Rua General Pereira da Silva 225. It is a welcoming place for worship and reflection.
Let’s step back in time to understand the origins of Igreja Batista em Icaraí. The Igreja Batista da Orla de Niterói wanted to start new satellite churches. This idea led to a small group meeting in Itaipu in 2009. Pastor Irenio Silveira Chaves led this group. They met for five weeks studying the Bible. The group felt they needed to continue working together to form a new church. Initially it was called Projeto Orla Itaipu.
Pastor Irenio decided they needed a permanent location. They chose Piratininga near Shopping Itaipu Multicenter. This location was central and accessible. It also filled a gap between other Baptist churches. The project expanded and became Orla Oceânica.
In August 2010 they signed a lease for a property on Rua Dr. Cornélio de Mello Jr. Preparations were made and celebrations began. The grand opening of Igreja Batista em Icaraí was on October 23 2010.
Several people were invited to help build the church. Pastor Walter Peixoto supported the ministry. Layza Nogueira and Yuri led worship. Valdilane oversaw the children’s ministry.
After three years Orla Oceânica was well established. The original church organized it officially on March 25 2014. Pastor Irenio Silveira Chaves became the president. Rafael Alt da Luz was the vice-president.
The church started with 21 founding members. It grew into a strong community. It is focused on biblical teachings and sharing the Gospel. The church values community and helping people grow as disciples of Jesus.
From 2019 to 2023 activities moved online during the pandemic. In June 2023 the community began meeting again. They shared space with the Igreja Anglicana de Niterói on Rua Dr. Paulo César. The church then moved to a commercial space on Rua Mem de Sá.
Igreja Batista em Icaraí continues to embrace people celebrating life together. The church values people more than structures. It prioritizes relationships over strict rules. They focus on family and community guided by Jesus Christ. The church welcomes everyone to share in faith and discover God’s plan for their lives. Their slogan reflects this: Acolhendo pessoas e celebrando a vida which means welcoming people and celebrating life.
Igreja Batista em Icaraí is more than a historical landmark. It is a living and breathing community. It continues to evolve adapting to the needs of its members. Its story is one of faith perseverance and a deep commitment to serving others. As you leave remember the Igreja Batista em Icaraí is a place where lives are transformed.
