A humble beginning. That’s how the story of the Iglesia Tabernáculo de la Fe in Comodoro Rivadavia begins. Not in Buenos Aires. It started small a simple prefabricated shack. This tiny chapel served as a meeting place for the burgeoning congregation. It was located on the slope of Cerro Chenque. It was near the intersection of Alvear and Alem streets in the Pietrobelli neighborhood. This humble building lacked amenities and even had an earthen floor. The early families who gathered there included the Levill Broca Diaz Tirucán and Nauto families. This small group would eventually become the heart of a massive project.
The Iglesia Tabernáculo de la Fe though in Comodoro Rivadavia not Buenos Aires grew rapidly. It quickly outgrew its small beginnings. The need for a larger space became clear. Pastor Hernán Pérez a pivotal figure in the church’s history tirelessly worked towards this goal. He arrived in Comodoro Rivadavia at the end of 1966. He was confirmed as pastor in 1967. His dedication and vision fueled the congregation’s ambition.
The church moved to several locations as it expanded. One was the former Coliseo in the city center. The dream of a grand temple persisted. The vision of a larger church was finally fulfilled in 1991. Construction began on the new building. The location was a practically rural area. It was on the outskirts of the nascent San Cayetano neighborhood. The challenges were numerous. They had to overcome issues such as land surveying and terrain leveling. The building’s construction was primarily funded by the congregation’s own capital.
The construction intensified in 1993. The congregation worked tirelessly. They organized fundraising campaigns to keep the project going. By 1997 the work progressed steadily. The workforce was entirely made up of congregation members. Their collective efforts brought the church closer to its dream.
Finally on December 10 2000 the official opening took place. It was a momentous occasion for the community. It marked a significant milestone for the region. The Iglesia Tabernáculo de la Fe became a place of spiritual gathering and community events. It hosted the annual Patagonia Regional Convention. It was a major event that brought together pastors from across the region.
Sadly Pastor Hernán Pérez the founder passed away on February 5 2017. He was 70 years old. His passing was mourned by the entire congregation. His legacy however lives on. The magnificent building he envisioned continues to serve as a testament to his dedication faith and perseverance. It stands as a beacon of hope and community for many.
