Across the street stands the Iglesia Evangelica Pentecostal a beacon of faith in Buenos Aires. Its story begins not here but in Chile. In 1909 Reverend Willis Hoover ignited a spiritual awakening. This awakening started in the Methodist Episcopal Church. His passionate gospel sparked controversy. Hoover and his followers broke away. They formed the Methodist Pentecostal Church of Chile. This happened on September 12 1909. Legal recognition came later in 1929.

Further disagreements arose. This time between pastors Manuel Umaña and Willis Hoover. Umaña took control of the Methodist Pentecostal Church. Hoover had to separate. He needed a new name for his movement. Thus the Iglesia Evangelica Pentecostal was born. Though legally constituted in 1940 its roots are firmly planted in 1909 with Hoover. This is because he is considered the founder of Pentecostalism in Chile.

The Iglesia Evangelica Pentecostal adheres to traditional Christian doctrines. Its beliefs are expressed in the scriptures. Key tenets include faith in the Holy Trinity the divinity of Christ and the Holy Spirit. The church uses the 1960 Reina-Valera Bible translation.

Salvation is a central theme. Influenced by Methodism it emphasizes the Holy Spirit’s testimony of salvation. The church observes baptism and communion. Infant baptism is practiced regularly. Communion is given annually.

The Iglesia Evangelica Pentecostal embraces the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This includes speaking in tongues prophecy visions and miraculous healings. These experiences are integral to their daily lives. It is a church of holiness.

The church has a hierarchical structure. The superintendent and the Presbytery are the highest authorities. Pastor Presbítero Aldo Córdova Muñoz currently holds the superintendent’s position. The Presbytery includes all pastors. Each country is a zone led by a Presbytery pastor.
