In 1949, Father Juan Kidikas visited Montevideo and discovered a Lithuanian community without a Lithuanian-speaking priest or their own parish. He promised to send help and true to his word, two Jesuit brothers, Juan Bruzikas and Vladas Mikalauskas, arrived in 1951. Their mission? To establish a Lithuanian Catholic community. With the support of Archbishop Barbieri, they rallied the community and even sought donations from Lithuanians abroad. It was a global effort fueled by faith and the desire for a spiritual home.
