Isn’t it inspiring how a small seed of faith can grow into a strong community? That’s exactly the story of Iglesia de Munro.
Let me introduce you to Iglesia de Munro. It’s a Christian Evangelical church with a rich history in this very city. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith.
Iglesia de Munro’s story began on October 2 1949. The first gathering was held in a local on Belgrano Street. It was a humble start with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Several members of the newly formed assembly attended. Elders and invited guests were also present.
Among the founders were Don Benjamín Montllau and Don Manuel Domínguez. Their wives also supported them. Early members included Julio Filippini and his wife. Also present were Doña Mercedes de Alarcón, Doña Juanita Acuña and Doña Abigail de Cartea. Don Luis Pérez Sido was another member. Many were Spanish and Italian immigrants. They had arrived from their homelands not long before.
Over time, many joined through conversion and relocation. Some passed away. Others moved to different churches and countries. These countries included the United States, Brazil and Uruguay. Some even relocated to other Argentinian provinces.
After almost three years of construction, the church moved. In 1970 Iglesia de Munro established its current place of worship. It is located on Rubén Darío Street. Here, it continues to hold services.
The Iglesia de Munro also houses the Northern Branch of the Jorge Müller Biblical Institute. It provides four-year courses. These courses cover biblical, theological, and ministerial training.
Currently, the pastors are Jorge Luis Pérez Sido, Esteban Beitze, and Eduardo Cartea Millos. Eduardo Cartea Millos was a child at the very first meeting.
Iglesia de Munro celebrated its 50th anniversary. The anniversary was celebrated on December 29, 2013. The Apostle Norberto Picchi led the service. Bishop Fernando Altare and District Elder Jorge Segarra assisted him. District Evangelists Martín, Ferber, Di Marco, Córdoba, and Frisardi also attended. Other district servants were present as well.
Apostle Picchi recalled the beginnings of God’s work. It was in this area of northern Greater Buenos Aires. He mentioned many servants. They offered their time and efforts. They sowed the word in believing hearts.
The Iglesia de Munro was inaugurated on November 2, 1963. The District Apostle Martín inaugurated it back then. Pastor S. Pena was its first leader. The church building has been renovated and embellished. Gabriel Martín is the current leading pastor.
Hebrews 13:7 was the text for the anniversary service. That morning also included a celebration. District Evangelist Antonio Martín and his wife Cristina celebrated their ruby wedding blessing. This added to the joy. Despite the high summer temperatures, many attended. 191 adults and 21 children enjoyed the final Divine Service of 2013.
Iglesia de Munro stands as a testament. For over seven decades it has proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is based on the Holy Scriptures in Munro and its surroundings.
