In 1922, an Italian immigrant named Marcos Mazzucco arrived in Argentina with his wife, Onorina. They sought new opportunities. Little did they know their journey would intertwine with the history of the Iglesia de Dios. The Iglesia de Dios’s story began humbly in 1886 in a rustic house between Tennessee and North Carolina. Eight Christians, yearning for a deeper connection with Christ, formed a new church. Their aim was to restore biblical doctrines and promote greater devotion. This small group would eventually grow into a global Pentecostal movement.
Now, let’s return to Argentina. In 1928, Mazzucco experienced a miraculous healing. Filled with gratitude, he and his wife opened their humble home on Gral. Frías Street in Isla Maciel, Avellaneda, for worship and preaching. This marked the beginning of a growing congregation. By 1931, they had established their own church, Iglesia Evangélica de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. The congregation flourished, expanding to neighboring areas.
On June 30, 1940, a significant union took place. The Iglesia Evangélica de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo merged with the Church of God, represented by missionary Rev. J. H. Ingram. Marcos Mazzucco became the first Supervisor of the Iglesia de Dios in Argentina. The Iglesia de Dios continued its growth and influence. From missionary expansion in the 1940s to theological strengthening in the 1970s, the church faced internal challenges and celebrated triumphs. Through it all, the Iglesia de Dios remained committed to its founding principles of spreading the gospel and serving the community. The Iglesia de Dios, right here before us, stands as a testament to the power of faith, the dedication of its followers, and the remarkable journey of a man named Marcos Mazzucco.
