An interesting event then unfolded. An official accused Gabriel Cayancela of selling one of the sandals. Cayancela explained that the Señor had gifted it to him. His family was burdened by poverty. He had wept before the Señor. The Señor then threw him the sandal.
The authorities put Cayancela before the divine image. The image then performed a miracle. It animated and threw the other sandal to Cayancela. The crowd returned the sandals. They also gifted Cayancela forty thousand silver pesos.
