Clutching my grandmother’s rosary, I remember attending mass at Iglesia Católica Santa Cruz de Casitagua. The air vibrated with the harmonies of the choir. The scent of incense filled the sanctuary. Iglesia Católica Santa Cruz de Casitagua stands as a testament to community spirit in the heart of Quito’s Colinas del Norte neighborhood. Initially, the church was just a few chairs and an open space. Through the combined efforts of Father Patricio, an Italian priest, and Father Luis Casañas, along with the dedicated local residents, the church transformed. They organized mingas, communal work projects, and raised the structure that stands before you today. Iglesia Católica Santa Cruz de Casitagua is more than two decades old. It serves as a beacon of faith for the community. The church’s Facebook page, a hub of connection for parishioners, shares updates and information about services. For those seeking spiritual guidance, the parish office is open Tuesday through Friday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Masses are held Tuesday through Saturday at 6:00 pm, and Sundays offer three services at 7:00 am, 11:00 am, and 6:00 pm. The church’s current leader, Father Vicente Gaibor, a member of the Augustinian religious order, continues the legacy of community and faith that defines Iglesia Católica Santa Cruz de Casitagua. The church stands as a symbol of resilience and devotion. It is a place where the echoes of community mingas still resonate within the walls.
