The story of Iglesia Católica San José de Calderón begins in 1907. A church of brick and block was built. This was thanks to the support of the locals. Father Faustín Carrasco was a key figure. He was the first priest. He laid the groundwork for the parish. He also started the festival of the Virgen de la Natividad. But due to unrest he resigned on October 1 1906.

The Iglesia Católica San José de Calderón is divided into three sections. The first section features two towers. Each tower has its own bell. In the second section a rosette window lets light into the choir. Four fluted pilasters stand at its edges. The last section holds the door. An inscription reads Come all you who find yourselves trapped.

The image of Nuestra Señora de la Natividad appears in an inventory from 1896. By 1947 a chapel existed on ten blocks of land. The Virgin measures 63 cm. She is accompanied by the Child Jesus.
