Imagine stepping back in time to December 30, 1928. That’s when the Iglesia Católica San Jerónimo de Pintag was built. It stands as a colonial-style religious temple. This church is not just a building. It is a place filled with history, sacrifice, love, and devotion.

Many faithful people journeyed from different parts of Quito. They came to San Jerónimo de Pintag seeking forgiveness and solutions to their problems. Legend says San Jerónimo would flagellate himself to satisfy his followers’ requests. He would take a small stone and beat his chest until it bled. This act was believed to achieve divine grace.

Word of these miracles spread. More and more people flocked to San Jerónimo. His health deteriorated due to his penitence. His body bore many wounds. Eventually, he passed away.

The people of Pintag were deeply moved. They carved his figure in marble in his honor. They placed it in the Paspana sector. His memory lived on in their hearts. The miracles attributed to San Jerónimo reached the Vatican. The Pope approved his beatification.

Once recognized by the Catholic Church, a religious sister authorized the figure’s transfer to Tolóntag. But something extraordinary happened. The men carrying San Jerónimo stopped to rest. When they tried to resume their journey, they couldn’t lift the statue.

Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t move it. Alarmed, they sought help from religious leaders. The clergy confirmed the situation. They declared it a miracle to the people. They ordered a church to be built on that very spot. Through communal work, the Iglesia Catolica San Jeronimo de Pintag was completed.

Today, San Jerónimo’s presence remains. His effigy stands where it chose to stay. He holds the stone he used for flagellation in his right hand. It symbolizes a legacy of effort and reflection. It also shows his love for his people. He is in the main church of Pintag near the main altar.

Visiting the Iglesia Catolica San Jeronimo de Pintag offers more than just a glimpse of colonial architecture. It connects you to a powerful story of faith. The church is located next to the central park. The parish of Pintag is surrounded by streams and highlands. Primary forests and the Antisana volcano enhance the landscape.

The festivities honoring San Jerónimo are held from September 24 to October 22. Activities include parades and bands. There are also food exhibitions and bullfights. San Jerónimo watches over Pintag. He protects its people for all time. Take a moment to reflect on the history and devotion. The Iglesia Catolica San Jeronimo de Pintag is more than a church. It is a testament to faith.
