“Somos una Iglesia de Fe Cristiana Evangélica Bautista”. That’s what Iglesia Bautista Bethel proudly proclaims. It has been bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to its community for 90 years.
Iglesia Bautista Bethel’s story began in Villa Ballester. A group of German immigrant believers founded it on April 10, 1927. They gathered to express their faith in God together. Initially, they met on Colegio Militar Street. Today it is Martín Lange Street. The church grew there sharing its faith with the neighbors. Later, they acquired land on Independencia 440 Street. On September 16, 1952, they inaugurated the temple we enjoy today.
Like any Baptist church, Iglesia Bautista Bethel is independent. It is financially autonomous. It receives no regular funding from the state or other institutions.
From its founding, the church’s goal has been clear. It wants to proclaim the gospel of Jesus. The church finds this gospel described in the Bible. It provides a space for spiritual growth. This space welcomes the whole family from children to the elderly. Since 1972, the church has run Hogar Bethel. This is a nursing home in Los Cardales. It provides outstanding service to seniors. From 1988 to 2009, the church ran a well-known kindergarten. Financial and legal reasons forced its closure.
The women of Iglesia Bautista Bethel deserve special recognition. They collect and prepare new and used clothing. This clothing is sent to the neediest places in the country. This ministry has blessed many families for decades.
Today, Iglesia Bautista Bethel continues its mission. It preaches the good news of Jesus to the community. It provides activities for all ages. These activities include recreation, culture, social events and spiritual enrichment. Everyone is welcome to participate.
The scriptures are Iglesia Bautista Bethel’s only standard for faith and practice. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ unites them. He is the Lord of their lives. He is the head of the church. Together, they proclaim salvation and live Christian lives to the fullest. Iglesia Bautista Bethel has a special interest in sharing Jesus’ gospel. They want their neighbors to enjoy God’s blessings too. Just as they themselves do.
