The Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día holds a special place. It marks the establishment of the first Seventh-day Adventist church in Mexico. Its roots stretch back to 1891. An Italian missionary arrived then. He distributed 2,500 copies of “The Great Controversy”. Ellen G. White co-authored this book. It became a cornerstone of the Adventist faith.
In 1899, George Washington Cavines and other missionaries established the first church. It was located in the Escandon Suburb. This marked a pivotal moment. The Adventist message began to spread throughout Mexico. The Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día was small then.
Today, Mexico City and its metropolitan area boast 254 Adventist churches. Over 88,000 members call these churches home. Throughout Mexico, there are five major church regions. They oversee more than 4,691 churches. These churches have a total of over 781,000 members.
The Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día has seen significant milestones. These include the publishing house and the first school. The school later moved. It is now in Montemorelos Nuevo Leon. There is also the Sanatorium. These institutions show the advancement of the church’s work.
The Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día celebrated its 120th anniversary. Former pastors and members shared their memories. They recalled God’s blessings. They remembered the church’s growth. One member Noe Luna recalled the original building. In 1960, it was rebuilt to seat 400 people. The original structure was much smaller.
Pastor Angel Ramírez pastored the Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día in the 1970s. He remembered baptizing 100 new members in one day. New pews were installed. The Adventist-run sanatorium was built next door.
Even today, the Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día continues to evolve. In 2023, the church launched a national online evangelistic campaign. The theme was “Don’t Give Up There Is Still Hope.” This campaign aimed to reach a larger audience. It used modern technology to spread its message.
The Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día partnered with “Houses of Hope.” These homes transmitted the online campaign to neighbors and friends. In Mexico City alone, nearly 1,000 “Houses of Hope” participated.
The church continues to focus on evangelism. It distributed Ellen G. White’s “The Great Controversy” throughout Mexico City. The church encourages its members to share hope.
