Orhan Çerkez the Mayor of Çekmeköy has a strong connection to the area. He arrived in Istanbul from Ardahan in 1980. Çekmeköy became a district in 2009. Alemdağ Taşdelen and Ömerli joined Çekmeköy that year. The population grew from 155000 to 300000.

Hz. Hüseyin Camii has one Imam-Hatip. His name is Yahya Aydın. The mosque has two minarets. It can accommodate up to 1000 worshippers. The mosque offers programs for its community. There are Hadith and Ilmihal lessons before the noon prayer every day. Quran lessons are held after the evening prayer.

Sheikh Ali el-Karavi explained that the program aims to convey the message of Imam Hussein. Turkey’s Alulbeyt Foundation Director Sheikh Rahmani Onurşan added that Imam Hussein is a light.
