Picture this a quiet suburban area in Copenhagen. This is Husum a place with a rich history. Centuries ago Husum was a small village. It was home to 17 farms in 1782. Imagine the life of farmers then. Their days filled with tending fields and livestock. The land belonged to Husumgård a manor house built in 1660. Sadly it was demolished in 1738. But the spirit of Husum endured.

In 1901 Husum became part of Copenhagen. The area transformed. Trams arrived in 1924 connecting Husum to the wider city. Life became faster. More convenient. The old village feel began to fade. Yet the community remained. Stronger than ever. Husum’s growth continued. New homes schools and businesses appeared.

Today Husum boasts a modern church. Designed by Holger Jensen it replaced a temporary church from 1928. This area is also home to Nørre Gymnasium the only gymnasium in Brønshøj-Husum. Husum also takes pride in its three elementary schools. Husum School from 1930 Korsager School from 1948 and Tingbjerg School from 1956. The largest company in the area is Radiometer. A testament to Husum’s industrial progress.

Husum has also played its part in Danish film and television. Voldfløjen 2-4 in Husum featured in the 1960s film series Støv på hjernen. The series depicted the everyday lives of residents in a fictional housing estate. The series’ success highlighted the area’s unique character. Later Husum became a major location in season 1 of the TV2 series Rita. The series showed the neighbourhood where Rita’s son lived. The setting included the sandwich shop and nail salon.

Husum’s transformation is complete. From a humble medieval village to a thriving modern suburb. It’s a place where history and modernity coexist. Husum is a testament to Copenhagen’s growth and evolution. It’s more than just a place. It’s a story etched in time. A story we can experience together.
