Hüseyin Avni Sözen Anadolu Lisesi is a highly selective Anatolian School. It offers preparatory through 13th grades. Until 2000 it was an English MoI selective school from 6th to 12th grade. The school is similar to grammar schools in the U.K.

Hikmet Özarslan founded Hüseyin Avni Sözen Anadolu Lisesi. He served as headmaster from 1984 to 2003. Other headmasters include Hüseyin Yalçın Muhterem Yıldız Mehmet Keskin and Haluk Değirmenci. Haluk Değirmenci has been the principal since 2015.
There are many extracurricular activities and student clubs at Hüseyin Avni Sözen Anadolu Lisesi. These include the Reading Competitions Organisation Committee and the Brain Teasers Society. The school features the largest in-door sports complex on the Asian side of Istanbul. Here students can do physical activities in team sports gymnastics and fencing.
