Hello everyone. Today, we’ll delve into the story of this esteemed institution. The Humboldt-Gymnasium Radeberg is more than just a school. It’s a place of learning and growth.
Founded in 1899 as the Städtische Höhere Knabenschule, the school has evolved over the years. In 1904, it gained recognition as a Realschule with Progymnasium. By 1925, it was known as Realgymnasium mit Realschule.
During the Second World War, the school was named “Städtische Oberschule für Jungen”. Interestingly, girls also attended classes. After the war in 1946, it was renamed Humboldtschule. Then, in 1959, it became Erweiterte Oberschule Humboldtschule Radeberg.
However, in 1982, the school closed. Students had to attend schools in Dresden or Bischofswerda. The political changes led to its reopening as Humboldtschule in 1990. Since 1992, it has been known as Humboldt-Gymnasium Radeberg.
Initially, the school was located in the Pestalozzi-Schule. Later it moved to the “Alte Stadtschule”. In 1912, the Humboldt-Gymnasium Radeberg moved to its current location on Freudenberg. The original building is now a protected monument.
Extensive renovations and expansions were completed in 2000. During construction, classes were held on Waldstraße. Today, the Humboldt-Gymnasium Radeberg serves around 850 students. The school focuses on science, languages, and social sciences. It is also an inclusive school, integrating students with special needs.
The Humboldt-Gymnasium Radeberg offers a variety of activities. Students can participate in the “Schüler helfen Schüler” program. This student firm provides affordable tutoring. The school uses the “Drehtürmodell” for gifted students. This model allows them to work on special projects.
