This area was once filled with military equipment. Asbest-contaminated buildings stood where trees now grow. Fifty-eight buildings were demolished. Thirteen thousand one hundred meters of fence were removed. Fifty thousand square meters of sealed-off land were freed.
Artist Dörthe Bäumer created this hill. Its steps are engraved with messages of peace. These messages are in German English French and Russian languages. They are a reminder of the Cold War era. Nearby you will also see stelae. These art objects remember the fates of people from Russia the USA and Germany. These people were connected through the US base here in the Ober-Olmer Wald.
