Have you ever stopped to think about the history etched into the very soil we walk on? Right here, before you, is the Hudson Cemetery Plaque. This humble marker tells a story of a family, a community, and the enduring legacy of those who came before us. The Hudson Cemetery, located just south of Kennedale, was established in 1878 when John Dickinson Hudson buried his daughter Ary Mae on his family land. His twin daughter Ara Bell, buried earlier that year in Montague County, was later reinterred beside her sister. Three years later, the Hudsons deeded three acres to the trustees of the Hudson Cemetery to serve the surrounding community. Over the years, the cemetery has held the remains of many early pioneers of the New Hope Community. More than 500 graves were counted in 1996. The plaque itself, erected in 1998, commemorates those buried in the cemetery. It stands as a visible reminder that even in the face of time’s relentless march, the memories of those who have gone before us are still preserved.
