Picture the Huber Köşk a grand mansion overlooking the Bosphorus. Its history whispers tales of wealth and intrigue. This wasn’t just a home it was a symbol of a bygone era.

The Huber Köşk was built by the Huber siblings. They were powerful figures in Istanbul. Their business? Representing Mauser rifles and Krupp steelworks. Auguste Huber and her family owned this magnificent estate. They purchased the land from Armenian families the Tıngıroğlu and Düzoğlu families. The exact date of construction remains a mystery. We only know that the Hubers left Istanbul after World War II. Necmeddin Molla a city official traveled all the way to Augsburg Germany to buy the Köşk from the family.

After the Hubers’ departure the Köşk had a fascinating series of owners. It was sold to Egyptian Princess Kadriye Hanım. She later donated it to the Notre Dame de Sion organization for a symbolic price. The building fell into disrepair. A construction company took over in 1973. They restored and renovated it until 1985. Since then it’s served as the Presidential Residence.

The Huber Köşk’s architect is believed to be the Italian Raimondo D’Aronco. Though the exact date of construction is lost to time his influence is clearly seen throughout the mansion. The Köşk itself is impressive. The main building includes a stable a garage servants’ quarters two smaller villas and a greenhouse. The property boasts a sprawling 64000 square meter park. Its lush gardens slope down to the Bosphorus offering breathtaking views. It’s a rare sight in Istanbul a large green space reaching the water’s edge. The German Embassy’s summer residence sits right next door. The two properties’ grounds create a beautiful shared expanse of greenery.

Imagine the life lived within these walls. The laughter of children echoing through halls. The hushed conversations of diplomats. The Huber Köşk is more than just a building. It’s a living testament to Istanbul’s rich history. Its walls hold countless stories waiting to be discovered. Today a symbol of presidential power it continues to captivate and inspire.
