HTWK – Digitale Transformation

What if walls could talk? The walls of HTWK – Digitale Transformation could tell tales of a digital revolution. HTWK – Digitale Transformation, a faculty of Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, is a relatively new addition to the university’s landscape. Officially founded on October 1st, 2019, it represents a direct response to the ever-evolving digital landscape. But its story began earlier, in the winter semester of 2018/2019 when the faculty, then still in its foundational phase, welcomed its first students. This marked the beginning of HTWK – Digitale Transformation’s journey. The faculty’s creation was driven by a vision to address the transformative power of digital technologies. This vision is reflected in the HTWK Leipzig’s broader mission of combining practically oriented teaching with application-oriented research. HTWK – Digitale Transformation focuses on two bachelor’s and one master’s program. These programs delve into the processes and implications of digital transformation, offering students a unique blend of theory and practice. The faculty occupies a space steeped in history, situated in Leipzig’s west end. This area was once the heart of Leipzig’s industrial revolution during the 19th and 20th centuries. Now, it’s a hub for creatives, start-ups, and innovative minds. HTWK – Digitale Transformation continues this legacy of innovation. It provides modern facilities including two large lecture halls, ten laboratories, four seminar rooms, and four computer labs. A key aspect of the faculty’s story is its relationship with Deutsche Telekom AG. The faculty is financially supported by a foundation from Deutsche Telekom. However, it maintains academic freedom in its teaching and research. This partnership reflects shared societal goals. These goals include promoting young scientific and technical talent, advancing research, and facilitating knowledge transfer to businesses and society. HTWK – Digitale Transformation recognizes digital transformation as an interdisciplinary endeavor. Its research and teaching emphasize the optimization and development of communication infrastructure. This focus enables various application scenarios, from fundamental transmission technology and IT to the complexities of information and communication technology. The faculty’s expertise extends to areas like 5G Radio Access, Signal Processing, Fibre Optics, Cloud + Networking, Internet of Things, and IT Security. HTWK – Digitale Transformation actively collaborates with other faculties and experts on topics like artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous driving. This collaborative approach ensures that HTWK – Digitale Transformation remains at the forefront of the digital revolution.
